The Baboon House @ Malacca

A cosy, warm cafe located not far away from the busy Jonker Street, The Baboon House is a place to go if you need to escape from the heat and crowd and have a nice cup of coffee with good burgers.

I did not managed to take any pictures of the cafe, but believe me, when you are at the cafe you would not want to leave.

As usual, we are always on the look for food in the makan city aka Malacca and the sis recommended that we should chill at The Baboon House instead of the usual Wantan Mee, Chicken Rice ball or even Nadeje

Enough of babbling, let's have a look at what we had:

Of course it has to be the burger as it occupied the biggest space on the menu, and as not all of us can take beef, we ordered the pork chop burger instead. My take? The meat is rich in flavour but is lacking on juicy-ness. And if you're a bacon lover, they are not stingy on their bacons.

Aloha Burger (with pork chop) at RM19.90

Look at how thick the burger is. There's the patty, pineapple, veges, and streaky bacon.

Then we also had the Baboon Green Salad at RM14

It is not your average healthy salad, there's bacon, popcorn chicken, toast, apple and cheese. Good if you want something healthy but still need to have some unhealthy-ness..get what I mean?

As we felt that the popcorn chicken in the Baboon Salad is insufficient for us the meat lover, we ordered additional Popcorn Chicken at RM6.50

Roasted Pork @ Wong Kee Pudu

The boy has been raving about this particular Siu Yoke aka Roasted Pork he had once tasted with his boss at Pudu. And since we will be dropping by at the for-ever jam KL, we typed the location of Restaurant Wong Mei Kee (王美记) on ever-helpful Google Maps and off we go!

With Google Maps, the shop is not difficult to find and e managed to find a parking nearby the shop, lucky us.

And to our surprise, the shop was not too crowded when we arrived. We then proceed to order the Siu Yoke.

After approximately 15 mins wait time, the 'star dish' is served before our eyes.

My 2012 Oink Oink Bday - El Cerdo

Pardon my nerdy/act-cute photo. On my ahem, not-so-young-anymore-bday, I decided to go cute with the big-ass specs. I suppose if I didn't act cute this year, I cannot afford to do it the following years.

Before the dinner, we had tea at Dreamz Bakery at Kota Damansara.

My darlings ♥

Carbonara @ RM12.90. Not much of food selections, but I love their spaghetti, very creamy, with 3 fresh prawns, mushrooms and bits of smoked salmon.

Chocolate cheese. Japanese-style I assume as the cheese is very light-weight, to our liking.

Address:
Dreamz Bakery
No 32-1, The Strand Jalan PJU 5/20D
Pusat Perdagangan Kota Damansara
47810 Petaling Jaya (Close on every Tuesday)

And now to the star of the day, El Cerdo at Changkat Bukit Bintang.

First of all, a happy picture of me with my 2012 present.

And next, Xmas present from the big sista ♥

El Cerdo means 'The Pig' in Spanish and the place is famous for its pork dishes from around the world.

The place is very cosy with good service and with good food. A highly recommended place for a good family dinner or even for an outing with friends.

We are first greeted with soft, complimentary bread with pork liver spread?

Jamon Serrano. Imported Spanish cured & air-dried ham served on rock melon and salad. There are alot of thin ham varieties on the plate. Some of the ham is a bit salty, recommended to be eaten with the condiments which are served together.

Terry Pork @ SouthGate, KL

Hey there, apologies if I scared you with my close-up. I'm growing my hair long again and the length is really bothering me right now...it's making me wonder whether should I go short all over again...Ahhhh~ don't bother..

Today's food post will be on....BIG ASS sausages...ta-dahh

We get to know Terry Pork from Living Social which quote the following, "If you dig pork and you want to dine on nothing but pork, then head to Terry Pork for some porky goodness".Us being pork-lover, we head on to Southgate for some Porky Goodness.

Before heading to the porky-licious yummies, we stop over at H&M Malaysia for some stress-relieving session and damn we felt so good  after the session and a little poorer.

Terry Pork has 2 outlets, 1 in Kuchai Lama and the other is in Southgate, where we went and to my surprise the one in Southgate is so small and they only have 2 chefs and a waitress. I think there's only about 20 tables max?

And here's what we have for RM70 coupon

Early Grey Milk Tea, RM4.50. The drink is to my liking as it is not too sweet.

Sausage Bacon Rolls, RM9.90. Not good, you can see from here the cocktail sausages is too dry and we cant even taste the bacon, the Pork in Blanket @ Brussels Cafe is way better. We didn't even finish it.

Crispy Roasted Pork @ Malacca

Craving for some crispy roasted pork and sweet char siew? The stall selling this plate of rice shares the same stall with the famous 'Boon Leong Fried Oyster' which operates at night, whilst the crispy roasted pork stall operates in the am. I'm not sure of the operating hours but it was 11 in the morning when I visited the stall and there are still plenty of meats available.

Sorry ar, taukeh.. that piece of pork is too huge it covers your face.

The boss is so buzy chopping and slicing, all the time when we were there. Although there are not many eat-in customers but there are definitely a lot of take-aways.

Other than selling chickens, pork, the stall also sells fried eggs, cabbage and kang kong..talking about being healthy.

The fried eggs. What make the meat rice here different from the one we have in Klang Valley is that, the rice is served with curry gravy and bean sauce. You can also request for a bowl of the curry gravy to be eaten with the egg.

The char siew served here is a no-fatty, unlike those in 'Meng Kee Char Siew'. Both of the char siew I love, but I prefer the one in Meng Kee, will do a post on it asap...

The star food here is the roasted pork.

Look at the fats in between the meats, making it juicy and moisture. Since the fats is thin, you just can't separate it from the meats. The skin is ultra crispy, you can hear the 'crispyness' when you bite into it.

Some cabbage to wash all the fats...although non-logical, but at least that's how most people think. ^^

We had a plate of charsiew+roasted pork rice, fried egg and another extra roasted pork for RM12.

For those who wanted to have a bite into this crispy roasted pork, here's the address:

Malacca Teo Chew Bah Kut Teh

Bah Kut Teh is a must eat food in Klang. Those that we have in Klang are the Hokkien version, which has a darker soup color compared with the Teo Chew's.

Today we are gonna have BKT the Teo Chew way, with lighter soup color and has a more peppery taste to it.

In the pot: Meats, Mushroom, Celery, Enoki mushroom, Meat balls

Quite weird that they add celery in the pot, but it does blend in though.

The Yam rice, you can also choose to have the white rice. But try the yam rice, it is tastier.

The rice with real yam in it.

You Tiao @ Fried oil stick: Bah Kut Teh's best friend.

D' Pot.

Meat Ball, the I-Loved-Most-Ingredient in the pot. With the right amount of meats plus fat, the meat is soft and tasty.

Too bad the amount of balls in the pot is limited. I'm not sure whether do you need to add-in the meat balls or it is already in the pot. It is better to ask, or else you will miss the meat balls.

The meat is abit too dry for me, I still prefer those in Klang ^^.

The shop which is located in Melaka Raya, opposite of Comfort Hotel .

Overall, I love the meat ball and the yam rice. Nevertheless, the Klang Bah Kut Teh is still the best but it is good to try something different.

Although the soup is milder, but it has a different taste to it as it has pepper in it, making it a bit spicy. I'm not sure of the price as I do not need to pay..hehe...Avoid going during public holiday as the workers will be too busy to serve you.

Malacca Pork Rib Noodle

This is the shop I usually frequent for their Pork Rib noodle aka Pai Kuat Mee. It is located just opposite the famous shop- Hing Loong which also sells the same thing. I had tried both shop and I find that the 2 tasted the same.

But I prefer, this shop: Hong Kee, located just opposite the Taiwan Mee shop.

Things sold there. They have small, medium and large. For ladies, order the small size. Order L only when you are super duper hungry.

Foods here are cheaper compared to Hing Loong.

Same Pork Ribs, juicy and well marinated.

Same noodles, but I think the one here have a stronger herbal taste, look at the over flowing sauce.

Each bowl of noodle comes with a small bowl of soup, just like Hing Loong, but for the soup, the one here is milder.

Eat the meat with the chilli sauce or mix the chilli sauce in the noodles, it is tastier either way.

Opposite of Hing Loong

Malacca Food Haven: Hing Loong Taiwanese Mee

The famous shop which are famous of their beef noodles.

The signboard reads Taiwanese Beef Noodle King.

Too bad that I can't eat beef, so I had only tried the Pork Ribs Noodle. Nevertheless, it is also yummy.

It definitely is 'Taiwan' mee. Look alot of green onions, just like how I had it in Taiwan. The noodles that they serve there is soya noodles. (I'm not sure whether they had other types of noodles, cause I usually had this).
Price is RM4.20.

The noodles tasted a bit bland, their specialty is the fried pork rib- well marinated and crispy.

We add another plate of fried pork ribs. I can't really remember how much is this plate.

The price list. Although the fried pork ribs is written RM2.70, I think it is more that stated. You need to ask the lady boss to re-confirm.

Be prepared to wait when you go on the weekends.

The shop's address:
No. 11-J, Jalan Bachang,

Sheng Jian Bao Vs Xiao Long Bao

On our last day, we decided to eat 'BIG' because we did not really spend much during the last 5 to 6 days, hence we paid a visit to Din Tai Fung which is very near to our hotel, Hotel 73, for lunch and Mr. J for dinner... yummy...the past few days we had been consuming local delicacies in Taipei's night market.

On the last day we wanted to be more class. No more night market...lol...We went to the Xinyi branch which is located at the corner of Yun Kang St. It is only a 2-3 minutes walk from our hotel.

We're so shocked at the crowd outside the restaurant. Most of the customers are Japanese. Din't know that Japanese love Chinese cuisine. But in Japan also got alot of Din Tai Fung branch ma, why still come over to Taiwan's? >.< Malaysia also have a branch la...lol

Japs...taking pictures sumo weii... ^^ loved their fashion style.

The current number is 93 (as u can see from the picture above) and our number is ermm... I can't remember but it is a number very faraway from the current one. And so...

Photo Time!!

We ♥ the mascot ( Mr Big Head Dragon Pao).

We then got tired with the crowd, the wait and Mr Dragon Pao, we decided to explore the area.

The cook are making 生煎包 aka Sheng Jian Bao aka fried pork bun. They purposely display it through the window, to attract customers from Din Tai Fung-like us?

We hesitated but then decided why not >.<

The restaurant- KaoChi. The crowd not as much as Din Tai Fung, but we still have to wait awhile tho, 3-5 minutes maybe.

Cute display.

Our pao had finally arrived. The waitress got shocked when we told her that we only wanted the 生煎包 aka Sheng Jian Bao. We assumed that this is their specialty since they are making it through the window display. The price is NT$180 for 10 pcs. We managed to finish it since we were too hungry...haha

Difference between Xiao Long Bao and SJB is on the skin, and the method of cooking. XLB is steamed while SJB is pan fried. Both have a soupy fillings but SJB not as soupy as XLB.

After finishing the 10 pcs, we quickly get our ass off KaoChi and by the time we reached Din Tai Fung, our number is being called.

Must-haves when eating xiao long bao: sliced ginger with vinegar.

Finally it arrived the legendary XLB. Price is NT$190, also in 10s. Very nice lo I tell you..juicy!!

I still remember the my first XLB, it was in Singapore's Din Tai Fung years back and I had fell in love since then. The first time I had XLB, I had the soup dripping all over. After years of eating XLB, I finally mastered the skill, lol.

How I eat my XLB:
1. I bite off a little bit of the skin from the side.
2. Quickly suck out a bit of the soup but be carefull not to dry up the whole XLB.
3. Then, dip it with the vinegar.
4. Take a few piece of the sliced ginger and put it on top of the XLB.
4. After finishing your XLB, quickly prepare the chopstick to grab another one before someone gets it. ;p

We also had the Pork Rib Noodles (NT$170). We leaved Din Tai Fung with a big smile ...^^...
Seems like promoting Din Tai Fung..haha..and so this post marks my last one on my Taiwan trip. Hmmph..let me think what can I write next . . . till then

 Bye Taiwan. 再见 了台湾。

Hyatt House KL - Gallery Kitchen & Ten37 Sky Bar

It's nice to chill and spend time with the hubs in a quiet place with view, especially during the pandemic. Located in Mont Kiara, right...
